THE HOPE PROJECT INTERNATIONAL

BRINGING HOPE TO THE HOPELESS

The Hope Academy

HISTORY: There are many street kids around the city of Matagalpa who beg or sell things on the street each day. Some are homeless, but many have left home to work, or are taking money back to their families. Because of this, they do not attend school, and therefore never learn to read or write. In the picture above, you can see three of our students, Pedro, Maria, and Bayardo.

PURPOSE: We want to provide an education for these kids, and get them ready for school. We also want to use this as a ministry to the kids and their families, and ultimately help them all remain a family unit. This ministry will also serve as a great ministry training ground for our young people from Haiti who are in Nicaragua with us.

METHOD: We have hired teachers who will privately tutor them on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. This will allow them to still help their families during the day. They will learn to read, write, basic math, and the Bible. They will attend weekly Bible studies together, and their parents will attend at least one outreach event per month. The program will start with 8-10 children and will run until the next school semester begins, at which point they will enter regular school.

FUNDING: It will cost us around $350 per month to run this entire program.
